Thurs., Fri., & Sat Jan. 12-14 @ 7:30pm Surprise Theatre

Herald-Leader Culture Critic Rich Copley wrote: “…one of the most unusual theater experiences in Lexington.”

If you haven't seen Surprise Theatre, you've been missing out big time. It is the most innovative thing we do here at Natasha's, and we do a lot! We're packing in the crowds and filling up fast so get your reservation as soon as possible.

“Surprise Theatre” comes down off the stage, tosses aside the curtain, and removes the boundaries an audience is prepared for and anticipating. It takes them from their normal safe point of observation. “Surprise Theatre” does not come with a warning, does not notify the audience to what will be seen and who is participating. Lights do not dim to announce the beginning, no one takes the stage for a welcome or an introduction speech. The story might be anything; the performer might be sitting at the next table. Our plays unfold; almost always serendipitous, unplanned, and surprising.

Why do men choose to marry?
What do husbands really want from their wives?
How do men define happily-ever-after?

Because men are often stereotyped as uncommunicative and commitment-phobic, such questions have rarely been asked. Until now.

As a journalist devoted to the psychology of men, Neil Chethik has reached out to more than 350 American husbands of all ages, occupations, classes, religious faiths, ethnic heritages, and backgrounds. He shares the results—and many myth-shattering revelations in:

VOICEMALE: What Husbands Really Think About Their Marriages, Their Wives, Sex, Housework, and Commitment (Simon & Schuster).

Bring your partner and let Neil question your relationship!

Tues. March 7th @ 8:30pm Reading of the Gospels
by David Richmond with a special Lent Dinner

Actor and theatre legend David Richmond will read the Gospel of Mark in concert, in two acts. Concentrating on the narrative power of the account presented in the New Testament, Richmond will tell in its entireity the story “Everyone can quote from, the whole of which almost no one has heard.”

The choice of the King James translation has its source in the preface to the original edition: "To be read among the churches…" To be READ. Next to the works of Shakespeare, the King James Bible stands as one of the crowning achievements of English literature. Regardless of what we believe, these two works have largely created the language in which we think. It has been said that "what enters in at the eye goes to the mind, what enters the ear, to the heart."

This event includes the performance and a special dinner of Traditional Lent Fare Family Style (big bowls passed around the table) of Fish & Vegetarian dishes including Salom, Mushroom Stew, Ratatouille Provence with Greek Salads, Middle Eastern Spreads and dessert.

Saturday July 8th "Ben Lacy" @ 9pm
Thousands of awestruck audience members have watched him move effortlessly from Led Zepplin...to Stevie Wonder...to Van Morrison, not just playing the guitar parts...playing all the parts, at the same time. Snapping and slapping nasty bass grooves, stabbing inspired chord voicings, thumping staccato drumbeats and playing sassy solo lines... all simultaneously. But this isn’t just  a circus trick. It’s pure inspiration crafted with superhuman precision and Mojo to burn. $5 cover

Wed - Fri, July 12th-14th @ 8pm

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)
3 actors/37 plays/1 dead playwright

A “Python-esque” mixture of pratfalls, puns, willful misreading of dialogue, and absurd female impersonations, featuring both broad and subtle humor. Three actors condense a lifetime of the Bard’s work into one evening, spoofing it and praising it at the same time. This production by The Balagula Theatre embodies one of comedy’s most essential impulses: the adolescent urge to take a sledgehammer to the culturally revered. If you’re a fan of Shakespeare you’ll like this show, if you hate Shakespeare you’ll like this show. Starring: by Jesse Darland, Marc Roland, Eric Ryan Seale

Making up these “musical paintings” are contemporary explorations, never leaving straight-ahead jazz far behind. It’s perfectly clear these artists were well grounded in the basics before venturing beyond.”  -jazzreview.com

The play begins with an urgent question—Why? Why did Werner Heisenberg need to visit Niels Bohr in 1941, in the middle of World War II, when such a trip meant risking his life and the physicists' friendship? What could possibly have been so urgent?
Margrethe's question sets off an unstoppable reaction, and the question soon takes on a life of its own. Bohr, Heisenberg, and Margrethe are determined to find an answer, no matter what dark and winding road they must travel. Together, these three ghosts of the past relive that evening in 1941, along with several other important moments in their lives.

American Buffalo
 by David Mamet

In a Chicago junk shop three small time crooks plot to rob a man of his coin collection. Its existence came to light when the collector found a valuable "buffalo nickel" in the shop. The three plotters fancy themselves as businessmen pursuing the legitimate concerns of free enterprise. In reality they are Donny, the junk shop owner; Bobby, a young junkie Donny has befriended and finally "Teacher", a violent paranoid braggart. A story of men's interminable struggle toward the top of the heap, a goal which ultimately and inevitably eludes most of them.

Sat. Dec. 9th @ 9pm Pale, Stout, & Amber

“the top local pick for Irish and Celtic music”
Walter Tunis Lexington Herald-Leader music critic

Drawing on Ireland and Scotland’s rich heritage of dance tunes, ballads, and slow airs, Pale, Stout & Amber captures this music in all of its austere beauty and savage soulfulness. The fiery drive of the fiddle and the Irish bouzouki’s haunting drone are the heart of their sound, although Robert’s expressive singing and Art’s expertise on a variety of other instruments are also among their high cards. Wherever they appear, they mix story and song with history and personal experience, taking listeners on a journey across the Atlantic and back to the wellspring of some of America’s most beloved and enduring traditional music.
