Mermaids, Flying Women, and the Rice Goddess

Dewi Sri

Mermaid mythology or the fertility goddess can be found in every culture. So it seems that women have been worshipped in every form even to this day. We'll stick to wood carvings from Indonesia where we found a fanciful blend of female fertility goddess and the Cornish merrymaid. The Hindu deity of Dewi Sri inspired these carvings -- a perfect example of a modern mix of mythologies. To me it's all about magic transformation and getting the job done or an elaborate procrastination fantasy. Fly away!
