Lacquer Box from the Kholui Village in Russia depicting the legendary hero
Svyatogor The master miniature painters from Kholui choose subjects from
the poems and stories of classical literature, fairy tales and bylinas.
Attention is paid to landscaping around the village of Kholii and the Teza
river that runs through the town flooding in the spring. During the spring
when the waters reach the towns edge, boats are used to get around. These
scenes are common with the Kholui painters. This lacquer art work is one
of the finer examples of such miniature painting.
