Dumbek or Doumbek:
The Middle Eastern Drum

The doumbek or dumbek (if anyone has an opinion on the correct spelling let us know) is THE drum used throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa. It is made of metal, clay or ceramic, with drum heads made of acrylic, cow hide, goat, sheep or fish skin. The latter is considered the best of the natural heads.

We have found these four small clay and a metal doumbeks, made in Morocco, to be the best introduction into the drumming culture. The two taller dumbeks have the prized fish skin head. The metal doumbek has a built-in tambourine.

All four drums are authentic and sound great...no matter how well you play them.

We liked the size of these drums because they are portable, loud, and perfect for Sufi dancing, drumming circles or just to beautify the desktop of a dreaming drumming "wannabe" stuck in a cubicle.
