Ink Calligraphy Set for Japanese Ink Painting
The art of Sumi-e

Sumi-e Calligraphy Set Box

There is no better example of the less is more principle than the Japanese art of Sumi-e painting. Monochromatic ink painting originated in China as calligraphy. In Japan it is known as Sumi-e. Very clear forms are created in the emptiness of space; from the quiet inner space express the most powerful energy. Japanese painting is more a philosophy than a category of painting style and very much embodies the influences of Taoism and Zen Buddhism. There is white space, there is movement and then there is nothing again.

The calligraphy sets are complete for a novice or an advanced student. This is one of the best introductions into ink painting or calligraphy for a "non-artist" that I know.

Calligraphy Sets include: 5 natural hair brushes(7"), slate grinding stone (4.5"), Ink Stick, water bowl and ladle, 2 soapstone seals, brush stand, seal ink, case (Fan shaped 11.5" by 8" approx)

The smaller set has one soapstone seal and all the items are slightly smaller -- the brushes are 5 inches instead of 7.
