Cardamom

What it is? Cardamom is the ground seed of a tropical fruit in the ginger family known as Elettaria cardamomum. Cardamom has a pungent, sweet flavor…very intense.

Where does it come from? Cardamom comes from India, Guatemala, and Ceylon.

What's it's history? As early as the 4th century BC Cardamom was used in India as a medicinal herb and Greeks and Romans imported it for that very reason. When coffee was first used as a beverage almost 1000 years ago, cardamom was added as a spice.

What do you do with it? The Scandinavians commonly add it to breads, the Indians add it to curries, most the earliest use was by the Arabs who used Cardamom as a flavoring for coffee.

What we do with it? Well, we add it to our coffee Cairo blend just like the Arabs have done for centuries.
